While at breakfast the other day with a banker friend of mine he told me something that made my jaw drop. I bet you didn't know this dirty little secret...

If you attempt to withdraw $50 from your bank account via an ATM, but for some reason don't have the funds to cover it, the ATM will still give you the $50, overdraft your account, and charge you a $20 to $35 fee.

Here's the worst part, all of this happens without a warning to you! There is no little flashing light, no prompt on the screen saying you are about to overdraw, just the quiet sound of them reaching into your pocket to the tune of $35 bucks or so.

So that $50 night on the town could end up costing you $85! Now to be fair, not all banks do this, but about 90% of them do!
